Scotiabank Increases Donations to Help Relief Efforts in Fort McMurray

CALGARY, AB - May 06, 2016 /CNW/ -  Scotiabank today announced that it would increase its original commitment and match the generosity of Canadians across the country up to another $100,000. This comes just days after Scotiabank initially pledged $100,000 in the wake of the devastating wildfires in Fort McMurray, Alberta.

"The generosity we have seen from every corner of the country has been inspiring," said Laurie Stang, Scotiabank Regional Senior Vice President, Prairie Region. "With the continued devastation in Fort McMurray, Scotiabank will increase its donation to help with the relief efforts in the affected areas."

Yesterday, Scotiabank reiterated its commitment to their customers facing hardship from this disaster. Customers are encouraged to contact us at 1-800-4SCOTIA for information about branch availability, to discuss their financial needs, or to bank by phone.

"Our thoughts remain with all Albertans and their families as they deal with this unimaginable nightmare," said Stang. "Their resilience in the face of such adversity continues to be an inspiration."

Scotiabank encouraged Canadians to continue their generosity and donate to the relief efforts at any Scotiabank branch in Canada from Friday, May 6, 2016 - Monday, June 6, 2016. Both original donations and the matching funds will go to the Canadian Red Cross. People are encouraged to let branch know their donation is for the Alberta Fires Appeal. Donations can also be made through the Canadian Red Cross website or by calling: 1-800-418-1111.
