MEDIA ADVISORY: Junior Carnival in Malvern Today

Over 2,000 Junior Masqueraders, Soca and Calypso Music, Caribbean Food and More

 

TORONTO, ON - July 18, 2015 /CNW/ - The media are invited to join local politicians, civic leaders and Festival CEO Denise Herrera-Jackson and CAO Chris Alexander to the kick-off ribbon cutting ceremony for the Scotiabank Toronto Caribbean Carnival's Junior Carnival Parade.

What: 
The annual parade introduces children to the traditions of Carnival. 2,000 children are expected to take part, from six months to 16 years old. The junior mas players, grouped into nine different mas camps, will be judged by a panel of professional judges. At the end of the 1.1 km long colourful parade, there will be a Family Day party -- "Las Lap in De Park," at Neilson Park with junior Calypso singers, junior Steel Pan orchestras and Caribbean food. The results of the parade will be announced at the party, which ends at 8:00 p.m.

When: 
Saturday, July 18, 2015
Ribbon cutting at 10:35 a.m. 
Parade begins at 11:00 a.m. and is scheduled to end at 2:00 p.m.

Where: 
Children will assemble at the Malvern Community Centre, parade west on McLevin Ave to Neilson Road and then North on Neilson Road to Neilson Park. The ribbon cutting will take place south of the intersection of McLevin Ave and Neilson Road.
