Future Ottawa Hockey Stars Hit the Ice for Scotiabank Girls HockeyFest

OTTAWA, ON - January 05, 2015 /CNW/ - Two time Olympic gold medalist Cassie Campbell-Pascall will be lacing up for the eleventh annual Scotiabank Girls HockeyFest in Ottawa to coach over 220 young female athletes on Sunday, January 11th from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Canadian Tire Centre.

"We are looking forward to celebrating the fifth season, the hockey season, with the return of Scotiabank Girls HockeyFest, an event that began here in Ottawa," said Carole Chapdelaine, Senior Vice President, Quebec and Eastern Ontario Region at Scotiabank. "It has been incredible to see how valuable the program is for the girls, learning important skills while being inspired by great role models to pursue their goals both on and off the ice."

Scotiabank Girls HockeyFest Ottawa is free to all participants and is open to girls aged 7-12. With support from the Carleton University and the University of Ottawa varsity women's hockey teams, Cassie will lead on and off-ice training sessions. The day also includes a behind the scenes tour of the arena and a keynote address from Cassie on the importance of being part of a team to reach goals. The participants will also get to take photos with the Clarkson Cup, the top award in Canadian women's professional hockey.

"I'm looking forward to coming to Ottawa to coach a great group of talented young athletes at Scotiabank Girls HockeyFest," said Cassie Campbell-Pascall, Scotiabank Hockey Ambassador. "This kind of clinic wasn't something that was around when I first started playing, so I am proud to be a part of this day where the girls can come together to improve their game and to celebrate this great sport!"

Scotiabank Girls HockeyFest began in Ottawa eleven years ago and has expanded across Canada to include Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, Brandon, and Toronto. To learn more about the event, please visit www.scotiabankgirlshockeyfest.com
