Toronto's Legendary International Festival Returns to Little Italy

TORONTO, ON - April 14, 2015 /CNW/ - CHIN RADIO is taking the Scotiabank CHIN International Picnic back to its birthplace, the Little Italy district of Toronto.

The move is in tribute to the 100th birthday of the late founder Johnny Lombardi, who created the iconic event to celebrate world music in Toronto.

Attending the CHIN Picnic is a summer tradition for a large number of Torontonians who grew up in the city, as it was the first inclusive, multicultural festival in Toronto.

This is the first location and date change for the CHIN Picnic in 32 years, moving from the Exhibition grounds on Canada Day Long Weekend to College St. in Little Italy on Father's Day weekend, June 19th - 21st.

This year, the Scotiabank CHIN Picnic is welcomed by the Barilla Taste of Little Italy festival. In addition to all Torontonians love about the Taste of Little Italy, CHIN will be providing the international headlining musical entertainment at the Scotiabank CHIN Showcase stage.

"We at CHIN are celebrating what would have been my Dad's 100th birthday, so this is a very special year," says Lenny Lombardi, President of CHIN Radio. "Joining two iconic events like the Picnic and Taste of Little Italy promotes all that is wonderful about our culturally diverse City," Lombardi adds, "CHIN Radio was born on College St. and joining with the Barilla Taste of Little Italy, is a perfect fit. And bringing it home to Little Italy, this great neighbourhood that he loved so much is coming full circle. My Dad would have loved it."

"The Scotiabank CHIN International Picnic is a celebration of the widespread diversity across the GTA," said Rob Mattacott, Scotiabank's District Vice President, Toronto Centre District. "Scotiabank's support of the CHIN Picnic demonstrates our commitment to giving back to the multicultural communities that make this city so vibrant. As Canada's international bank, Scotiabank is fortunate to be part of many communities in Canada and around the world."
