Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend Participants to Raise Funds for 40 Charities
OTTAWA, ON - May 19, 2015 /CNW/ - More than 48,000 participants competing in this year's Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend (May 23-24) will have the opportunity to take part in the Scotiabank Charity Challenge and raise money for one of 40 local charities.
"The Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend is Canada's largest running weekend, and we are proud to provide all the runners in the nation's capital the chance to make their race more meaningful by giving back to their community," said Carole Chapdelaine, Scotiabank's Senior Vice President, Quebec and Eastern Ontario Region. "Whether you're competing in the full or half marathon, 10K, 5K or 2K, you can participate in the Scotiabank Charity Challenge and support local causes that make a big difference in people's lives."
The Scotiabank Charity Challenge (#ScotiaChallenge) provides charities of all sizes the opportunity to join a high profile, turnkey fundraising initiative. Through the Scotiabank Charity Challenge, runners who sign up for any of the Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend events can raise awareness and funds for the charity of their choice.
"Ottawa runners and charities have been using the Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend to fundraise for many years," said John Halvorsen, Race Director of the Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend. "With the Scotiabank Charity Challenge, we are looking forward to seeing this charity component grow and to help even more local and national charities benefit from our runners' efforts."
The participating charities keep 100 per cent of proceeds raised, as Scotiabank provides the fundraising platform and pays for all transaction and credit card fees. It's called a "challenge" because it's a friendly competition between the charities and they all have an opportunity to win one of the following prizes through the Scotiabank Charity Challenge Awards:
