Media Advisory/Photo Opportunity: Running for More Than a Personal Best -- Rat Racers Aim to Make a Difference

TORONTO, ON - June 11, 2014 /CNW/ - On Thursday evening close to 2,000 runners of all ages and skill levels -- many dressed in rat-inspired costumes -- will run through the streets of downtown in support of a strong, dynamic city in the Scotiabank Rat Race for United Way. 

This 14th annual event features a five-kilometre fun run through the downtown core. Funds raised will support United Way's network of 200 community agencies that provide services and programs to people and families when they need it most, as well as support United Way's efforts to create long-term change.

WHAT: Scotiabank Rat Race for United Way

WHEN: Thursday, June 12, 2014

  • Pre-race activities: 6 p.m.
  • Opening ceremonies: 7 p.m.
  • Race start: 7:30 p.m.
  • After-party and Awards Ceremony: Approximately 8:15 p.m.

WHERE: Nathan Phillips Square -- 100 Queen Street West
Race starts on University Avenue just south of Armoury 
Runners will travel:

  • North on University
  • Queen's Park Crescent East to Bloor Street
  • East on Bloor Street
  • South on Yonge Street to Queen Street
  • West on Queen Street to Nathan Phillips Square
