CALGARY, AB - November 04, 2014 /CNW/ - Two-time Olympic gold medalist and Amazing Race Canada participant Meaghan Mikkelson will be lacing up for the seventh annual Scotiabank Girls HockeyFest in Calgary. The hockey great will coach over 300 young hockey players on Sunday, November 9, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
"We are excited to bring Scotiabank Girls HockeyFest back to Calgary and to offer local talented young female athletes the chance to learn from the very best," said Janice Church, Scotiabank's District Vice President of the Calgary region. "We are excited to be celebrating Canada's unofficial fifth season, the hockey season, with these young athletes as they learn both on and off ice skills. Meaghan is a fantastic role model and a real example to the girls of how much they can achieve through hard work and dedication."
Scotiabank Girls HockeyFest Calgary is free to all participants and is open to girls aged 7-14. The day will include on and off-ice training sessions along with a stadium tour and a keynote address from Meaghan on the importance of being part of a team to reach goals. The girls will also get to take photos with the Clarkson Cup, the top award in Canadian women's professional hockey.
"I'm looking forward to my first time coaching Scotiabank Girls HockeyFest in Calgary," said Meaghan Mikkelson. "This is a great opportunity for the girls to come together to improve their game and also to celebrate hockey. It's going to be a great day and I am sure I'll get to meet some future hockey stars!"
