HAMILTON, ON - November 08, 2014 /CNW/ - Scotiabank today announced that Hamilton's Nick Davies has been named the Scotiabank Game Changer for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 2014 Season at the final game of the regular season. He was recognized on the field during the game for the outstanding work that he has done in the community and awarded $25,000 for Neighbour to Neighbour.
"We want to congratulate Nick Davies for being named our Scotiabank Game Changer," said Ed Keohane, Scotiabank Senior Vice President, Ontario Region. "This program means so much to us at Scotiabank as it puts a much deserved spotlight on people in our communities who dedicate themselves to helping others. At such a young age, Nick is truly inspiring and a great example of how one person can make a positive difference in our community."
Four years ago, Grade 10 student Nick Davies created the Stuff the Bus food drive, inviting his community to fill a bus with food for Neighbour to Neighbour, Hamilton Mountain's food bank. The event resulted in 2,900 lbs of food. Expanding the project, he made partnerships with volunteer groups and sponsors so that Stuff the Bus events could happen monthly. Nick also put together The Great Soup Round-Up, a school board-wide fundraiser that asked each student to bring in just one food item. Forty-five schools took part last year, donating over 16,000 food items.
Nick was selected as the 2014 Season Scotiabank Game Changer from a group of eight finalists who had each been named a Home-Game Scotiabank Game Changer earlier in the season and were awarded a $1,000 donation for their designated charity. Nick was selected as the overall season Game Changer based on a combination of fan voting and a judging panel.
During the CFL regular season, Scotiabank has recognized a total of 24 Scotiabank Game Changers across sponsored CFL markets.
