Renewed focus on enhancing employment, increasing footprint and giving back to the community in Halifax

HALIFAX, Feb. 27, 2019 /CNW/ - Scotiabank has announced today its continued investment in the Halifax and Atlantic region. In a tour with the Honourable Geoff MacLellan, Nova Scotia Minister of Business, the Bank shared details of its recent growth as part of a renewed commitment to advancing the community it originated from through employment, expansion and charitable giving.

Scotiabank (CNW Group/Scotiabank)

Scotiabank has a large footprint in the city of Halifax and across the Atlantic region, with over 130 branches, Customer Contact Centre, Commercial Banking teams and Scotia Wealth Management offices. Over the past year, the Bank has grown its Atlantic Region Customer Contact Centre by increasing employment and expanding its cash management operations by adding more than 4,000 square feet of space. Currently, more than 470 full-time employees work in the Centre, an increase of 24% in the last year alone. Scotiabank has also created a new Virtual Advice Team to work in partnership with the Contact Centre that will add 23 net new positions to support Small Business customers across Canada.

Through several partnerships in the community, Scotiabank is recognized as a leader for its charitable donations and philanthropic activities. In 2018, Scotiabank contributed $1.9 million in donations and sponsorships for a number of organizations and initiatives in the Atlantic region. The Bank also provided an additional $2.2 million in matching funds to support employee fundraising and community participation efforts.

"Halifax and the Atlantic region continue to be an important market for us. We're committed to deepening our roots here. The investment we've made to date through our Customer Contact Centre, employment opportunities and community giving is already having a positive impact," said Susan Graham, Director, Atlantic Contact Centre. "We're proud to support our home region and truly believe that when our communities thrive, our customers become better off."

"Scotiabank has a long history of doing business in Nova Scotia," said Minister MacLellan. "It is great to see Scotiabank deepening its roots here, expanding its operations and employing more Nova Scotians."
