The Stanley Cup® and Hockey Stars to Arrive in Eight Communities in Nunavut

  • Juno Award winning singer – songwriter Susan Aglukark to perform in Taloyoak.
  • Scotiabank and Rumie to donate 150 educational tablets to young people.

 

IQALUIT, April 24, 2017 /CNW/ - Scotiabank, Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities, the NHL®, Project North and First Air, are inviting eight Nunavut communities to experience a special celebration of hockey taking place from Wednesday, April 26 to Saturday, April 29.

The iconic Stanley Cup® will be visiting with Stanley Cup® Champion Lanny McDonald and CWHL All-Star Natalie Spooner. Scotiabank®, Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities, the NHL®, Project North and First Air are delivering 150 bags of new hockey equipment to local communities.

Scotiabank will also be teaming up with Rumie to give 150 educational tablets to benefit students in Nunavut.

Details of the tour are below (all times are local). The Stanley Cup® and hockey greats will be at each location and interview opportunities with Lanny McDonald, Natalie Spooner and partner spokespeople will be available at each stop.

Wednesday, April 26:

Iqaluit

   
 

What:

Scotiabank, Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities and the NHL® are hosting a hockey clinic and community skate at Arnaitok Arena.

   
   

Community members will have the opportunity to take photos with the Stanley Cup®, Lanny McDonald and Natalie Spooner.

   
 

When:

4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. – Community Skate

 Thursday, April 27:

Cape Dorset

     
 

What:  

Following a parade with the Stanley Cup® through town, the tour will go to an outdoor rink to present young people with hockey equipment. This will be followed by a free skate.

11:00 a.m. – 12:40 p.m.

Parade Start - Kinngait West Baffin Eskimo Co-op Studios, continuing onto the Outdoor Arena

Kugaaruk

     
 

What:

Come out to the Sea Ice, where the community is invited to join the celebration, with a free skate and a presentation of hockey equipment to the community. There will also be a gift of 100 educational tablets from Rumie to help local students and teachers access learning resources.

What:

What: 

Young hockey fans from Quqshuun Ilihakvik Elementary School will host special visitors, when the Stanley Cup® and hockey stars come to their school. There will be a presentation of bags of new hockey equipment to the students.

Resolute Bay

     
 

What:  

A celebration of hockey, where local hockey fans can take their photo with the Stanley Cup® and get autographs from NHL AlumniTM Lanny McDonald and CWHL player Natalie Spooner.

What: 

The community will host a fashion show event at Arnaqjuaq School, followed by a presentation of hockey gear to young people.

Quikiqtarjuaq

     
 

What: 

On the final stop of the tour, the community is invited to come out to the sea ice to celebrate hockey with the Stanley Cup®. There will also be a presentation of hockey equipment.
