Employers invited to register their participation in Take Our Kids to Work day - Wednesday, November 6, 2013
TORONTO, Sept. 27, 2013 /CNW/ - More than 75,000 Canadian employers will get the chance to meet their future workforce. On Wednesday, November 6, 2013, more than 250,000 high school students from across the country will take part in The Learning Partnership's 19th annual Take Our Kids to Work™ day. The Learning Partnership invites employers across Canada to register their Take Our Kids to Work day event at www.thelearningpartnership.ca/page.aspx?pid=654.
This nationwide event provides students with the opportunity to spend the day at the workplace of a parent, relative or volunteer, exploring career options in a practical way and gaining a better understanding of just how many career choices are open to them. They also start to understand the importance of staying in school by seeing first-hand the skills required in today's workplace.
"Students and employers tell us that a gap exists between what is learned and experienced in school and what is required in the workplace," says Akela Peoples, President and CEO of The Learning Partnership. "Employers can help close this gap while at the same time supporting career education, by opening their doors to students. Take Our Kids to Work allows employers to become involved in preparing our young people for tomorrow's economy."
Take Our Kids to Work™ is The Learning Partnership's flagship program and has run since 1994, in partnership with Scotiabank.

In 2011, The Learning Partnership introduced Canada's Outstanding Employer Awards to recognize those organizations that take extraordinary steps to engage students on Take Our Kids to Work day. Companies who register on the Take Our Kids to Work website are eligible to apply.
Besides the opportunity to win a Canada's Outstanding Employer Award, there are other benefits to registering employer participation on The Learning Partnership website. Organizing a company-wide event can be challenging so all registered companies receive a Take Our Kids to Work information package that includes materials they can use to host the day, among other incentives.
