TORONTO, Sept. 20, 2013 /CNW/ - The Scotiabank AIDS Walk For Life Toronto, which raises funds for the AIDS Committee of Toronto (ACT), takes place this Sunday, September 22 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at Church and Maitland.

Media are invited to attend the opening ceremonies and Walk kick-off from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Many photo and video opportunities available of people doing stuff for AIDS!

WHY:    The Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life raises funds and awareness about HIV/AIDS in Canada. The Walk has raised over $38 million since 1996 and has attracted well over half a million participants.

  • This year's entertainment lineup features DJ Sumation spinning anthems from the last 25 years to honour the Scotiabank AIDS Walk in Toronto anniversary. Impersonators & drag queens join in the fun!
  • ACT has partnered with artist James Fowler to create a unique and interactive art piece using canvases. The public is encouraged to leave their thumbprints and/or a personal message as an intimate marking of their solidarity in the fight against HIV/AIDS. The 20 canvases will be displayed on the walls of ACT offices (399 Church St.) during the weeks following the Walk. The segment is sponsored by Dudley's Hardware and Curry's Art Supply and Tidy's Flowers.
  • Free activities for kids pre- and post-Walk, includes face-painting, balloon animals, interactive games, colouring books, bubbles and a fire-breather! At Church St, between Wellesley and Alexander St.
  • From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. - To honour our loyal pals, this year's Walk has an on-site groomer, Paws Playgrounds (@pawsplaygrounds) and pet station with water bowls, treats and an opportunity to win prizes like doggie daycare and grooming!

Funds raised will support a range of activities at AIDS Committee of Toronto (ACT), including health promotion and HIV prevention programs, as well as support services for people living with, affected by and at risk for HIV/AIDS.
