Summer of FREE - presented by the Scotiabank SCENE®- brings classic movies to unique outdoor venues from Montreal to Victoria
TORONTO, July 4, 2013 /CNW/ - Scotiabank today launches the Summer of FREE - a national movie tour that gives Canadians an opportunity to vote for and see free movies in unique outdoor venues along with a chance to win free movies.
"There's something unforgettable about watching a movie outside, and with our Summer of FREE tour, movie-lovers will get to see classic films in places that reflect their themes, like a castle, a ranch, and ghostly grounds," said Jacqueline Ryan, Vice President of Sponsorships and Partnerships Programs at Scotiabank. "Through this movie tour, Canadians will experience the 'feeling of free' that our customers enjoy through our SCENE program."
Scotiabank's Summer of FREE movie tour kicks off in Montréal on Wednesday, July 10 at the Parc Jean Drapeau Beach. What better place to see the classic summertime thriller Jaws than by the water? From there, the tour will move west with a new screening every Wednesday of a movie with a theme tied to the venues and chosen by the public:
Today also marks the launch of the weekly Summer of FREE Facebook Contest - Facebook.com/Scotiabank -- that asks Canadians to vote for which movie they want screened at the following week's event, with an opportunity to win free movies.
To get things started, this week's Facebook Contest question is Which romantic movie would you like to see in wine country? - with Sideways, Under the Tuscan Sun and A Good Year as options. The winning movie will be screened at Heartland Kelowna in British Columbia's wine country on July 17.
Facebook users can vote daily for their favourite film and with each vote, they will be entered for a chance to win daily prizes of free movies passes as well as a grand prize of free movies for a year. The winning film selection will be announced at the end of each weekly voting period, one week prior to the screening.
Attendees are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets to sit back and relax under the stars and enjoy the winning movie of the week projected on a 40-foot outdoor movie screen. Moviegoers will experience all the perks that are available to Scotiabank SCENE members year round by collecting SCENE points. Not only will attendees be treated to a free flick, but the first 500 entrants will receive complementary popcorn and water. Each event will also feature a VIP section available to the first 100 Scotiabank SCENE Debit and VISA cardholders who show their cards. Full event details are available at Scotiabank.com/summeroffree.
