Pledges additional funding for community hockey in Ottawa

TORONTO, June 18, 2013 /CNW/ - Scotiabank today confirmed that it has reached a new agreement with Senators Sports & Entertainment to continue as the Official Bank of the Ottawa Senators. This announcement is concurrent with the news that there will be a transfer of the naming rights of Scotiabank Place in Ottawa. In signing the new agreement on "Official Bank" status, Scotiabank also increased its commitment to community hockey sponsorship in Ottawa.

"Today's announcement means that we will renew our relationship with the Ottawa Senators and build on some of the great work that we've done together as their Official Bank for the past seven years," said Duncan Hannay, Scotiabank Senior Vice-President Canadian Banking, Marketing. "Scotiabank's commitment to the community and to community hockey is part of our culture and along with this new agreement we will be increasing our support for local hockey in the Ottawa region.

"We look forward to offering popular programs that include Scotiabank Girls HockeyFest and Scotiabank Skater. As a founding member of the Sens Foundation, we will continue to support great charitable initiatives, like the Scotiabank Walk, Roll & Run for Roger's House held on Sunday. Scotiabank employees from 12 branches across the region raised more than $25,000 for this event. This is one of many initiatives that Scotiabank employees support and they have raised over $100,000 for Roger's House.

"In addition, Scotiabank will also make a new investment in community hockey in Ottawa. Effective immediately, we are pledging additional funding to support minor hockey in the Nation's Capital.  Some of these funds will support the Ottawa distribution of the Scotiabank Community Hockey Sponsorship Program. This program is available through Scotiabank branches from coast to coast and last year sponsored 4500 Canadian minor league teams, more than 250 of them in the Ottawa area."
