TORONTO, Nov. 4, 2011 /CNW/ - Hundreds of Bay Streeters lined up to be served by Scotiabank executives and guest chefs this morning to help launch Scotia Hope, Scotiabank's 2011 United Way Toronto employee campaign. The annual event proved to be as popular as ever and put breakfast attendees in the giving spirit.
"Over the years, our pancake breakfast has become a great tradition that brings people together in a fun way to draw attention to an important cause," said Rick Waugh, Scotiabank President and CEO. "Community involvement is a pillar of Scotiabank Bright Future, our global philanthropic program, and an important part of the way we live, work and do business every day. This year, through the generosity of Scotiabank employees, our Scotia Hope campaign goal is to raise more than $5.7 million through fun events like today's breakfast and the Scotia Hope Hockey Classic. We're proud to support the United Way's efforts to bring hope to individuals and communities across Toronto."
Scotiabank executives were joined by United Way Toronto President and CEO, Susan McIsaac and NHL AlumniTM and former Toronto Maple Leaf Captain Darryl Sittler. Scotiabank employees, customers, and neighbours were invited to have breakfast served up in the main branch and to make a donation to United Way Toronto.
"Year after year, people rally together through workplace campaigns to support United Way," said Ms. McIsaac. "Scotiabank employees, through Scotia Hope, are a leading example of this and a reminder of what we can accomplish when we work together. At a time when many people are struggling, the commitment of Scotiabank and its generous employees to making a difference in the community is truly inspiring."
The annual pancake breakfast officially kicked off the employee campaign which includes a variety of fundraisers showcasing the spirit and dedication of Scotiabank employees who continuously volunteer their time and energy to raise funds for United Way Toronto. Other fundraising and awareness initiatives include the Scotiabank Rat Race; Scotiabankers Disco Fever, and, the Scotia Hope Hockey Classic on December 11th, which will bring together NHL Alumni to play hockey with youth from United Way agencies and Bank executives. With 800 Scotiabank volunteer coordinators and canvassers, and donations made by thousands of employees, Scotiabank continues to be one of the largest supporters of United Way Toronto.
