The Greater Toronto Hockey League To Celebrate its 100th Anniversary at Star Studded Gala

GTHL All Star Team of the Century presented by Scotiabank to be announced

TORONTO, Sept. 16, 2011 /CNW/ - The Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL) today announced the final details of its 100th Anniversary Dinner Gala.

The event will take place on Saturday September 17 at 7:00pm at the Toronto Congress Centre and will see 450 people including league administrators, volunteers, sponsors, and fans gather to reminisce about the rich history of the League and celebrate this milestone.

The highlight of the evening will be the introduction of the GTHL All Star Team of the Century presented by Scotiabank.  Thousands of people voted online to determine the top 6 players from an extensive list of GTHL graduates.  The team includes 1 goalie, 2 defensemen, and 3 forwards.  5 of the 6 players named will be in attendance that evening to accept this prestigious honour.

"The members of the GTHL All Star Team of the Century are not only the greatest players to have played in the GTHL but are among the greatest players to have ever played this game.  It is truly remarkable and shows the strength and quality of our League," said GTHL President John Gardner.  "We're proud of these players and proud of all of the young men and women who have graduated from the GTHL and were able to find success in their lives."

"The 100th Anniversary commemorates a tremendous milestone for the GTHL, and Scotiabank is thrilled to present the All Star Team of the Century," said Duncan Hannay, Scotiabank Senior Vice-President, Marketing.  "Playing hockey helps foster teamwork and dedication, two of the many skills that the GTHL All Star Team of the Century has demonstrated.  Scotiabank commends and congratulates the players on their great achievements."

Rounding out the star studded line up of speakers and special guests are Maple Leaf President and General Manager Brian Burke, CBC's Hockey Night in Canada star Don Cherry, NHL hockey analyst Glenn Healy, former NHL player Dennis Hull, and Sportsnet Radio the FAN 590 host Gord Stellick who will be the Master of Ceremonies for the evening.
