NHL Alumnus Paul Coffey Teams up with Minor Hockey Players to Fight Cancer
  • More than 200 minor hockey players will 'Feel Like a Pro' and practice hockey skills with Paul Coffey and other NHL Players
  • Top 30 fundraisers play in Scotiabank All Star Top Fundraiser Game with hockey pros

TORONTO, June 15, 2011 /CNW/ - More than 200 kids will lace up and spend the day on-ice with Paul Coffey and other NHL Players to support Minor Hockey Fights Cancer "Feel Like a Pro Day", an event organized by 12-year old pee wee minor hockey player Mark Mannarn.  The event has encouraged kids to raise funds for cancer research for the chance to practice hockey with professional players.

"Feel Like a Pro Day" has raised more than $130,000 and promises to be a fun-filled day with prizes, a silent auction, as well as a Scotiabank All Star Top Fundraisers game for the top 30 fundraisers who raise a minimum of $1,000.

WHY:         After losing his grandmother to pancreatic cancer last year then learning of his mother's cancer diagnosis, 12-year-old Mark Mannarn created Minor Hockey Fights Cancer "Feel Like a Pro Day".  Mark was prompted to create the tournament after attending WE Day, an annual event affiliated with Free The Children aimed at promoting and encouraging youth advocacy and initiatives. Mark's fundraising goal for "Feel Like a Pro Day" is $100,000 to the Canadian Cancer Society, a goal he has already surpassed by $30,000.  For more information on the event or Mark's story, please visit www.minorhockeyfightscancer.ca
