Conference Youth Day coordinator, world youngest breast cancer survivor join launch

WHAT: | On Friday, April 1st, Scotiabank will launch a national fundraising PIN campaign, in support of the 6th World Conference on Breast Cancer (WCBCF) to be held in Hamilton June 7-11, 2011. Funds raised will provide financial assistance to participants, in Canada and from around the world, who could otherwise not afford to attend. In addition to the national PIN fundraiser, Scotiabank is also the premier sponsor of the 6th World Conference on Breast Cancer. |
This year's conference will include a full day dedicated to building youth awareness and prevention. Conference Youth Day organizer, Lorna Larsen will join the Scotiabank PIN fundraiser launch to preview the Youth Day agenda and provide data on the extent of breast cancer among young Canadian and Ontarian women. Aleisha Hunter, the world's youngest breast cancer survivor will also join the launch. | |

WHY: | Started by a group of breast cancer survivors 15 years ago, the World Conference on Breast Cancer has grown into a multi-disciplinary, international gathering that allows women of the world to engage in discussion and develop valuable tools to assist them in their journey with breast cancer. Scotiabank has been the premier sponsor of the WCBC since its first event in 1997 in Kingston. Other previous host cities were Ottawa (2000), Victoria (2002), Halifax (2005) and Winnipeg (2008). |
