Scotiabank Announces Changes to Executive Management Team

    TORONTO, Aug. 13 /CNW/ - Scotiabank today announced changes to its
executive management team, part of the Bank's continuing focus on the strength
of its leadership team as a competitive advantage. These changes are effective
September 1, 2009.
    "Our leadership talent has been a big factor in our success," Rick Waugh,
President and CEO said in announcing the changes. "With our strategy of
diversification across geographies, product lines and three strong growth
platforms, we are uniquely positioned to develop leaders with broadly based
experiences and an understanding of our business from many perspectives. These
appointments will further position the Bank to take full advantage of the
significant opportunities we see ahead for all our business lines."
    Wendy Hannam, currently Executive Vice-President (EVP), Personal Banking
and Distribution, Canada, has been appointed EVP, Sales & Service, Products &
Marketing, International Banking, reporting to Rob Pitfield, Group Head,
International Banking. Ms. Hannam will oversee strategy development, channel
optimization, sales & service design and execution, marketing and product
support for International Banking.
    Dieter Jentsch, currently EVP, Commercial Banking, Canada, has been
appointed EVP, Latin America, reporting to Mr. Pitfield. Mr. Jentsch will be
responsible for Scotiabank's Latin American operations, including Central
America, and for the Spanish-speaking countries in the Caribbean.
    Anne Marie O'Donovan, currently Senior Vice-President and Chief Auditor,
has been appointed EVP and Chief Administration Officer, Scotia Capital, a new
executive role reporting jointly to Scotia Capital Co-CEOs Steve McDonald and
Mike Durland. In her new role, Ms. O'Donovan will oversee finance and
operations including and Global Wholesale Services for Scotia Capital.
    Anatol von Hahn, currently EVP, Latin America, has been appointed to the
newly created position of EVP, Personal and Commercial Banking Canada,
reporting to Chris Hodgson, Group Head, Canadian Banking. Mr. von Hahn will be
responsible for retail, small business and commercial banking in Canada.
