Canadian Minor League Hockey Teams Shoot and Score with Scotiabank
Canada's Hockey Bank sponsors more than 80 minor league teams across
BC/YukonVANCOUVER, May 12 /CNW/ - As the regular hockey season playoffs continue,
Scotiabank would like to recognize all of the minor league teams who
participated in the 2008/2009 Scotiabank Community Hockey Sponsorship Program.
This program provided financial support to minor hockey teams across the
country.
"Hockey is more than a sport in Canada. It's imbedded in our culture,
particularly at the community level," said David Poole, Senior Vice-President,
BC and Yukon Region. "Hockey is a big part of daily life for many of our
customers and employees. They coach, they fundraise, and they cheer. We know
that supporting a son's or daughter's hockey ambitions can be expensive, and
through this program we can help.
"We also believe very strongly in the role that hockey can play in
instilling the values of teamwork, commitment, and discipline, as well as in
promoting an active healthy lifestyle," said Mr. Poole. "Regardless of the
standings after the regular season, we hope that everyone who played minor
hockey this year had fun and will take away great memories from the
experience."
Through the Scotiabank Community Hockey Sponsorship Program, each one of
Scotiabank's 1000 Canadian retail branches were allocated funds to contribute
to local minor hockey teams in the 2008-2009 season. To be eligible, teams
were required to be part of a minor hockey association. For a full listing of
sponsored teams from coast to coast, please visit www.scotiabank.com
In addition to funding, the teams received exclusive Scotiabank 'Official
Bank of the NHL' shoulder crests featuring the NHL(*) shield and a skills DVD
featuring Montreal Canadiens superstar, Alex Kovalev.
"The Scotia Community Sponsorship Program is just one of Scotiabank's
many grassroots hockey programs being offered to minor hockey teams in
communities across Canada," said John Doig, Senior Vice-President, Canadian
Marketing. "There were also some exciting contests available exclusively
through scotiahockey.com that were made available for sponsored teams.
Opportunities to have a hands-on skills session with a member of the NHL
Alumni, and a chance to win the ultimate banquet attended by an NHL player
were up for grabs. Eligibility has closed for this year, but stay tuned for
the 2009/2010 season."
