They Shoot...They Score...And United Way Toronto Wins!

NHL Alumni help Scotiabank Give Hope

TORONTO, Nov. 6 /CNW/ - NHL Alumni Wendel Clark and Mark Napier joined
Scotiabank executives and youth from United Way agencies this morning in a
friendly hockey game at North Toronto Memorial Arena. The hockey game was
played in support of Scotia Hope, Scotiabank's 2008 United Way employee
leadership campaign, to help drive employee giving.
"For more than 12 years, Scotiabank employees have been bringing hope to
the communities we serve through our longtime partnership with United Way,"
said Chris Hodgson, Scotiabank Group Head, Canadian Banking. "Our 2008 Scotia
Hope campaign fundraising goal is more than $5 million, and many of our
fundraising initiatives and awareness drives encourage others to give and help
promote significant change in our communities. Today's exciting hockey game
was meant to inspire our community and connect with the agencies that United
Way supports."
The two hockey teams were mixed with 14 Scotiabank executives and senior
management, 13 youth from four different United Way Toronto agencies, with NHL
hockey legends Wendel Clark and Mark Napier as team captains. Youth from
United Way agencies (Toronto Kiwanis Boys and Girls Club; Tropicana Community
Services; Dixon Hall and Kidsfest) all received donated hockey equipment.
"Each year, we see workplaces from across Toronto coming together in
generous support of United Way," said Susan McIsaac, Chief Development
Officer, United Way Toronto. "Scotia Hope is a great example of this.
Employees are leading the way - going beyond the traditional fundraising
campaign and connecting to the community through our agencies. Events like
this one demonstrate Scotiabank's commitment to creating opportunities for a
better life for all."
"We are very proud to help Scotiabank support United Way Toronto through
the Scotia Hope hockey game," said NHL Alum Mark Napier. "Members of the NHL
Alumni are actively involved with a wide range of charitable causes and
initiatives and today's event underscores our commitment to giving back to our
community."
Scotiabank's 2008 employee campaign for United Way Toronto, Scotia Hope,
encourages employees to join the leadership campaign and give hope to
neighbourhoods in the GTA. All funds raised for United Way Toronto helps
women, men, youth and children in need; helps address the very serious
challenges of hunger and homelessness, and helps Canadian newcomers build
lives right across the GTA.

Scotiabank is committed to supporting the communities in which we live
and work, both in Canada and abroad. Recognized as a leader internationally
and among Canadian corporations for its charitable donations and philanthropic
activities, in 2007 the Bank provided more than $43 million in sponsorships
and donations to a variety of projects and initiatives, primarily in the areas
of healthcare, education and social services and arts and culture. Please
