Scotiabank's Bank The Rest Savings Program Reaches 100,000 Member Milestone

TORONTO, Oct. 28 /CNW/ - Scotiabank is pleased to announce that Bank The
Rest, the Bank's free debit card savings program launched in April 2008, has
signed up its 100,000th customer.
"We are extremely pleased with the success of the Bank The Rest savings
program," said Gillian Riley, Managing Director and Head, Retail Deposits,
Scotiabank. "Bank The Rest is all about giving Canadians the option to
automatically save as they go about making their everyday purchases. Whether
it's saving for the future or just for a rainy day it's important for
Canadians to make savings a part of their daily routine."
"Around the world, economic uncertainty and financial market volatility
have increased dramatically in the wake of the ongoing problems in the United
States," said Aron Gampel, Vice-President and Deputy Chief Economist,
Scotiabank. "In this environment, traditional savings are likely to become a
greater contributor to the financial security of Canadians. Remember, every
little bit helps!"
The first program of its kind in Canada, Bank The Rest helps customers
save as they make their everyday purchases with their debit card. Customers
can choose to round up the total purchase amount to the nearest dollar or
nearest five dollars, and have the difference deposited automatically into
their Scotiabank Money Master Savings Account where their money will continue
to grow.
To increase customer awareness of this unique savings program, in
mid-September Scotiabank began offering to match up to $100 in savings
accumulated through Bank The Rest for customers who opened a new Scotia One
account and enrolled in Bank The Rest. This offer is valid until November 2,
2008. Scotia One account holders who remain enrolled in Bank The Rest until
April 30, 2009 will have up to $100 credited to their Money Master Savings
Account.
The Bank The Rest savings program is available to new and existing
customers. Visit banktherest.com to learn more about this unique savings
program, visit a Scotiabank branch or call 1-800-4-SCOTIA (1-800-472-6482).

card (ScotiaCard), and a Scotiabank Money Master Savings Account to enroll in
