    Scotiabank proudly announces sponsorship of NHL Alumni Association

    TORONTO, Sept. 10 /CNW/ - Scotiabank and the NHL Alumni Association today
announced a new sponsorship, through which Scotiabank becomes the Official
Bank of the NHL Alumni Association. This sponsorship formalizes a partnership
that will result in new ways to promote the game of hockey and bring exciting
opportunities to Canadian fans.

    Today's announcement builds on the relationship between the NHL Alumni
Association and Scotiabank. Scotiabank was a presenting sponsor of the
Baycrest International Pro Am Hockey Tournament and NHL Alumni Association
Executive Director served as a judge for Scotiabank's national "Build Stanley"
contest in 2008. Future initiatives will be announced as they are finalized.

    Today's announcement comes the day before the NHL Alumni Awards Gala
Dinner, presented by Scotiabank, being held at Toronto's Westin Harbour Castle
on September 11. Awards at the event include:-   The NHL Alumni 'Man of the Year' award, to Bobby Hull to recognize
        his ongoing commitment to the game at all levels through his
        continued commitment in community and charitable causes
    -   The Keith McCreary '7th Man Award,' to Dr. Brian Shaw to recognize
        his behind the scenes contribution to the sport. This Award is named
        in honor and memory of Keith McCreary, Chairman of the NHL Alumni
        Association who passed away December 9, 2003.
    -   The Ace Bailey 'Award of Courage,' to the late 1st Lt. Derek Hines.
        The NHL Alumni recognizes this year's recipient from the US Military
        who has shown exceptional courage and determination in life and for
        our country. This Award is named in honor and memory of Garnet "Ace"
        Bailey, a former NHL'er who died in the September 11 tragedy.The Gala will also launch the NHL Alumni Signature Wine Series(TM) in
support of various charities including the NHL Alumni Association's "Hockey's
Greatest Family Fund," which supports former players in need.
