Scotiabank Contributes up to $100,000 to China Earthquake Relief Efforts

    TORONTO, May 14 /CNW/ - Scotiabank today announced a Cdn$50,000
contribution to Canadian Red Cross China Earthquake fund. The Bank has also
established an account for employee contributions, with the Bank providing
matching funds of up to Cdn$50,000, also to the Canadian Red Cross China
Earthquake fund.
    "Our thoughts are with the victims and families that have been affected
by the earthquake in China," said Rick Waugh, Scotiabank President and Chief
Executive Officer. "The extensive damage that has been caused to entire
communities will mean that rebuilding efforts will continue for many months.
We are glad to be able to play a role in that effort."

has been in China since opening a Beijing Representative Office in 1982.
