TORONTO, March 20 /CNW/ - Fans of women's hockey are gearing up for an
intense showdown this weekend as the Brampton Canadette-Thunder take on the
Mississauga Chiefs in the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL) championship
final.
    The championship game represents a first for the CWHL which was formed in
the fall of last year and comes on the heels of an exciting road to the final
by both teams.
    The game is being held on Saturday, March 22nd during the Brampton girls'
hockey tournament at the Brampton Powerade Centre, 7575 Kennedy Road South.
Doors open at 11:00 a.m. and the puck drops on the big game at 1:00 p.m.
    "Anybody who has been watching this league leading up to this game knows
it's going to be a barn burner," said Sami Jo Small, a Canadian Olympian who
is both a founder of the league and a goalie for the Chiefs.
    "This is also a fabulous opportunity for the CWHL to reach out to fans,
raise money for the league and increase profile for our sponsors," she added.
    Following the game there will be a special ceremony featuring awards for
the most valuable player, as well as the league's highest scorer named in
honor of pioneering women's hockey star, Angela James.
    Brampton Councilor John Sanderson will be on hand for the awards ceremony
as well as Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion.
    General admission tickets for the game are free based on a first come,
first serve basis. VIP area tickets are $30. Information and downloadable

take in the final game which provides a great opportunity to see the very best
that women's hockey has to offer.
