Creativity could score a trip to the Stanley Cup Final TORONTO, March 14 /CNW/ - In a new contest that challenges hockey fans to build replicas of the Stanley Cup(TM) using ordinary materials, Scotiabank will recognize Canada's creative spirit and send two Grand Prize winners and three guests each to a Stanley Cup Final game. The contest was launched today at an event that produced contest Cups made out cheese, ice, pastry and cutlery. "Canadians, get out your duct tape, soup cans, car parts or pasta noodles -- it's time to 'Build Stanley'," said John Doig, Senior Vice-President of Marketing, Scotiabank. "Scotiabank has recently deepened its involvement in hockey from coast-to-coast and from minor leagues to professional teams. We know that Canadians love this game and look forward to seeing the creativity they apply to honouring the Stanley Cup." The contest is open now and runs until April 27, 2008. To enter the contest, Canadians must post at least one photo and a 200 word (maximum) story about their work in creating their Cup at www.scotiahockey.com. Builders can then encourage others, including their friends and family to vote for their Cups. "We're very proud to be the official bank of the NHL, NHLPA, and Canadian Women's Hockey League, and to be a strong supporter of minor hockey teams across the country," said Mr. Doig. "Our customers and employees are hockey moms and dads, coaches, players and fans. This contest is our way of giving Canadians one more way to have some fun and be involved in this great sport. When the contest closes, the 15 top Cups, including the five Cups that receive the most online votes, will move to a final round of judging by a panel of hockey celebrities which includes:- Cassie Campbell, former captain of the gold medal-winning Canadian Women's Hockey Team in 2002 and 2006; - Johnny Bower, four-time Stanley Cup(TM) winner and Toronto Maple Leaf Alumni; - Mark Napier, two-time Stanley Cup(TM) winner and Executive Director of the NHL Alumni Association, - Jim Gregory, Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations for the NHL and Chairman of the Hockey Hall of Fame's Selection Committee; and - Vincent Lecavalier, superstar forward and 2004 Stanley Cup Champion from the Tampa Bay LightingThe top two winning submissions selected based on quality, originality, imagination and artistic merit will each receive four tickets to a Stanley Cup final game, including airfare, accommodations and $500 spending cash for each person. Each Grand Prize has an approximate retail value of $13,000. In addition to the Grand Prizes, there will be weekly random draws for secondary prize packs. Each week for seven weeks starting on March 17th and continuing throughout the contest period, random draws will be held - from the entrants and from Canadians who have voted for their favourite Cup. Seven entrants and seven voters will be selected each week to win secondary prizes of NHL merchandise valued at $100 each. The odds of winning a prize will depend on the total number of entries received from the start of the contest to the date of each weekly draw. No purchase is necessary to enter any of the contests.
