Scotiabank Teams Up with Canadian Women's Hockey League

Marks partnership with "Family Day" public skate at Hershey Centre,
    Mississauga

TORONTO, Feb. 13 /CNW/ - Scotiabank today announced a new partnership
with the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL). In celebration of the Bank's
new hockey roster, Scotiabank will host a Family Free-Skate at Hershey Centre
in Mississauga, on Family Day this February 18th.
"We're excited to add the Canadian Women's Hockey League to our other
hockey partners, which include the NHL and CBC's Hockey Night in Canada," said
John Doig, Scotiabank Senior Vice-President, Marketing. "Our interest in
hockey is based in the love that Canadians have for this game and Scotiabank's
commitment to supporting initiatives that enrich our communities."
The Canadian Women's Hockey League boasts a number of world-class female
hockey players. The League consists of seven teams, including a Central
division with four teams (Brampton, Mississauga, Vaughan and Burlington), and
an Eastern Division with three teams (one in Ottawa and two in Montreal). The
CWHL will complete the regular season on February 17th and head into playoffs
on February 23.
"This partnership invites hockey fans from across the country to come
together and support a league where the elite players come to compete at the
highest level of women's hockey in the world," said goalie Sami Jo Small,
two-time Olympic gold medalist and five-time World Champion as a member of the
Canadian Women's National Hockey Team. "Teaming up with Scotiabank is a
natural fit as the Bank is recognized as a leader in the advancement of women
and has a longstanding commitment to hockey and the communities Scotiabank
serves." Ms. Small will be at the Hershey Centre on February 18th.
"Scotiabank recognizes the long-term role the CWHL will play in Canadian
sport from grassroots to elite levels," said Scotiabank Human Resource
Senior Vice-President Marianne Hasold-Schilter, whose two daughters are avid
hockey players. "The CWHL is made up of women who are incredibly strong
role-models for a generation of girls and young women who aspire to play
hockey at both recreational and professional levels. Getting girls involved
has many benefits including the experience in team dynamics, leadership,
coaching for performance, fitness, competitiveness, commitment, and above all,
comradery."
To celebrate this partnership, Scotiabank and the CWHL are inviting
families from across the GTA to spend Family Day at Mississauga's
Hershey Centre. The ice is open to the public and families are invited to
enjoy a day of free skating with professional women's hockey players. The ice
is available on Monday, February 18 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on a first come
basis subject to capacity.
