United Way of Greater Toronto scores $6.6 million from Scotiabank Employees

    TORONTO, Jan. 30 /CNW/ - Scotiabank today announced a $6.6 million
contribution to United Way of Greater Toronto from the Bank's employee
campaign, as they celebrated this victory at the Hockey Hall of Fame. The
Scotiabank Employee Campaign helped the United Way of Greater Toronto surpass
their 2007 $108 million goal.
"Scotiabank's employee contribution continues to demonstrate the ongoing
commitment, spirit and enthusiasm that our employees share in supporting the
communities in which we live and work," said Rick Waugh, President and CEO,
Scotiabank. "I am proud of their generosity and dedication to fundraising and
volunteering for United Way of Greater Toronto. Our employees have shown us
that we can really make a difference."
Scotiabank's 2007 fundraising campaign included an employee contribution
of $5 million and a corporate gift of $1.6 million. The campaign contributed
to the largest-ever United Way of Greater Toronto fundraising achievement of
$108.1 million.
"Scotiabank led another extraordinary fundraising campaign in 2007," said
Susan McIsaac, Vice-President, Resource Development, United Way of Greater
Toronto. "United Way is grateful to Scotiabank and its employees for their
outstanding commitment and dedication to building a better city for us all.
Their generosity provides support to United Way's network of 200 health and
social service agencies, enabling United Way to continue to maximize its
impact across Toronto."
The Hockey Hall of Fame ceremony was a celebration of the spirit and
dedication shown by Scotiabank employees who volunteered their time and energy
to raise funds for United Way of Greater Toronto. Volunteers participated in a
variety of fundraising events such as the Scotiabank Amazing Halloween Race,
silent auctions, a pancake breakfast and the Scotiabank Rat Race for United
Way which raised more than $63,000 from 350 Scotiabank runners.
With more than 750 Scotiabank volunteer coordinators and canvassers, and
donations made by over 6,000 employees, the Bank continues to be one of the
largest supporters of the United Way of Greater Toronto campaign.
