TORONTO, June 25 /CNW/ - More than 350 ScotiaMcLeod advisors from across
the country came together for their annual For Advisor By Advisor (FABA)
Conference and raised $225,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation. The advisors and
executives of ScotiaMcLeod were in Banff, Alberta for their annual three day
conference from May 25 - 28.
    "The FABA conference was started as a way to facilitate peer-to-peer
learning and to build on the strengths of the ScotiaMcLeod team. This
conference gives advisors a chance to get together, learn from each other and
on occasions like this, celebrate each other," said Hamish Angus, Managing
Director and Head of Full Service Brokerage, ScotiaMcLeod. "This conference is
all about our advisors sharing - this includes sharing ideas and best
practices with each other as well as giving back to the community through a
significant charitable focus."
    The FABA conference took place for the first time in 2005 in Whistler,
British Columbia. The conference is a chance for ScotiaMcLeod advisors to get
together with their colleagues and share information, tips and strategies for
running a successful book of business.
    This year's event featured 49 presenters and 32 break-out sessions on
topics ranging from new ideas to help clients plan for retirement, ways in
which an advisor can build their business, and presentations on guiding new
advisors through their first five years at ScotiaMcLeod. The break-out
sessions were led by both seasoned McLeod veterans as well as relative
newcomers to the team, giving each an opportunity to learn from the other in a
true peer-to-peer approach.
    Each year the FABA conference allows advisors another opportunity to
focus on giving back to the community. The Terry Fox Foundation was chosen in
honour of four ScotiaMcLeod Advisors who lost their battle with cancer in
2006, as well as those who have survived or are still battling the disease.
The conference concluded with a live auction where advisors and executives got
into the fun and reached deep into their wallets for this great cause.

would be hard pressed to recall a better example of this during my tenure with
the Foundation than what I had the pleasure of witnessing at the FABA
