TORONTO, April 24 /CNW/ - Scotiabank today extended its gratitude and appreciation to the many Bank employees who volunteered at the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup (CWC 2007) - joining forces with all the dedicated CWC 2007 volunteers - to make the Cricket World Cup a warm and wonderful experience for participants, officials, visitors and spectators around the globe. "We're extremely proud of all our employees who pitched in during the seven-week event," raved Pat Minicucci, Senior Vice President, International, Scotiabank. "Our employees recognized that, in addition to financial support from sponsors like Scotiabank, a successful CWC needed a massive, collective volunteer effort to bring it all together. Scotiabankers definitely rose to the challenge, whether by sharing their professional expertise with CWC organizers or simply by offering a friendly welcome to visitors at match venues." Minicucci observed that the effective staging of the Caribbean region's first global event was a considerable challenge that was executed beautifully, thanks to extensive planning, hard work and enthusiasm of CWC organizers, staff and volunteers alike. He noted that, "Together we made the very best of this opportunity to showcase the West Indies spirit, by delivering the third largest sporting event in the world to cricket fans around the globe." Scotiabank employees were active as official ICC volunteers in most match locations including more than 30 Bank of Nova Scotia Jamaica employees, who represented nearly every branch, support centre or head office department. Smaller employee volunteer teams also worked diligently at most of the nine host country locations, such as a five-person volunteer squad in St. Lucia that contributed 12 hour shifts - from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. - on both match and non-match days. "Our employees truly bring to life Scotiabank's philosophy of strong corporate citizenship in the communities where we operate," remarked Minicucci. "Scotiabank has been a part of the Caribbean for over a century - since we opened for business in Kingston, Jamaica in 1889 - and we're proud of the role we've played in the region's development." Minicucci added that, in addition to the Bank's role of Regional Official Sponsor of Cricket World Cup 2007, many Scotiabankers are involved in Scotiabank Kiddy Cricket, a program that provides equipment and training to primary school students across the West Indies. More than 150 employees have received training to teach children the basics of the game and Scotiabankers also volunteer to co-ordinate presentations during the regional test series matches, where the Kiddy Cricket students have the opportunity to display their skills publicly, during the international matches. As leader in the banking sector in the Caribbean, Scotiabank is committed to supporting the communities in which we live and work. Scotiabank is a Regional Official Sponsor of the ICC Cricket World Cup West Indies 2007. Scotiabank is also the Official Bank of West Indies Cricket and the Exclusive Sponsor of Scotiabank Kiddy Cricket. Scotiabank has been part of the Caribbean and Central America since 1889.
